Spending the night in an unfamiliar room can be such a drag sometimes, especially when the sleeping conditions are reminiscent of sleeping in the great outdoors. So why would you want to put your guest through that same experience?
Take into consideration the things that make you feel at peace when staying in an unfamiliar place. This is the most important factor to make your guests feel right at home in a guest room. It will also give them a warm and cozy feeling knowing their comfort was thought of when you invited them into your home.
Follow these suggestions when shopping at your local PMD Furniture Direct™ franchisee to create a comfortable, relaxing experience for your guests:
- Keep it clutter free. Remove any furniture that might give the room a cluttered feel. Guests will feel more at home if they have enough room to accommodate themselves.
- Don’t furnish with all your unwanted furniture. This too can make a room feel cluttered and hodge-podge.
- Give the bed all the comfort you would want if you were sleeping on it. Provide extra pillows and don’t skimp on the linens. A thick duvet isn’t a bad idea either.
- Provide a nightstand next to the bed. This could be a great place for a lamp for reading purposes.
- Place a bowl of candy, magazines, books or flowers in the room to make your guests feel welcomed.
- Hang a mirror on the wall so they have a place to freshen up.
- A clock radio, wastebasket, iron and ironing board, tissues and a bottle of water are nice personal touches.
When creating a comfortable guest room for your dearest friends, visit your local PMD Furniture Direct™ franchisee to find the perfect pieces of furniture from the Royal Heritage Home Furnishings® Collection that will give your guest a home away from home experience.

Having beautiful furniture doesn’t have to be an illusion when it comes to families with young children. With your kids running around, jumping on furniture and spilling their food, keeping your furniture looking new can sometimes seem like a unattainable dream. However, if you shop correctly when looking for furniture, that dream can quickly become reality.
The type of cover you choose for your furniture is very important. Many fabrics come with anti-stain features or treatments to protect against spills and stains. Microfiber repels moisture remarkably and comes in a dazzling array of colors and suede like finishes. Genuine leather can also be an excellent choice because of its durability and strength. Many leather finishes have a naturally distressed look that won’t show wear and tear over a period of time. A sofa with a washable slipcover sofa also protects your investment during the messy years.
It’s almost guaranteed that at one time or another your kids will jump on your living room pieces, so make sure durability is high on your list of things to consider. The construction of the pieces play a huge role in the longevity of your furniture. Living room pieces should have a strong frame and high density cushions. Multiple furniture pieces like sofas, loveseats, and recliners can also be very beneficial. It gives you the luxury of rearranging your room as your beautiful family changes.
Visit your local PMD Furniture Direct™ franchisee to see how beautiful furniture from the Royal Heritage Home Furnishings® Collection meets your family’s needs.

Man’s best friend can also be his worst enemy when it comes to the destruction of furniture. It’s a normal thing for puppies to want to chew on any objects they can find. This habit will continue typically from the ages of 1 1/2 to 2. No object or piece of furniture is safe during this growing time. They will chew on shoes, windowsills, moldings, clothes, sports equipment, but most importantly your brand new furniture!
Protect the wonderful piece of furniture you just purchased from your local PMD Furniture Direct™ franchisee from getting chewed on by following these easy steps.
- Figure out why they are chewing. Is it because of teething, curiosity, boredom, or a behavioral disorder? Discuss these options with your local veterinarian.
- If you puppy is teething, buy them a teething ring or make a frozen washcloth for them to chew on.
- Keep a sharp eye on your puppy. Don’t let them wander about. Use a baby gate to corral them and keep them in the same room as you. Crates can also be useful if you fill them with chewable toys.
- If you catch your dog chewing, distract them by giving them something appropriate to chew on. Have toys with various textures on them and rotate them around so boredom does not become a factor.
- Practice obedience with your puppy. Set aside time to play with them or teach them tricks. Your puppy wants your attention and is very important that you give it to them.
- Finally, exercise your puppy. If you tire them out, they won’t have the energy to chew on furniture.

Why does your cute little kitty latch on to your favorite furniture and hang on for dear life, stretching his claws and your patience?
Cats are a great family pet. Their easy maintenance, sweet and loving nature, and great companionship can really add to your family’s home lifestyle. But one of the frustrations that come with having cats is your feline’s need to scratch, stretch, and flex their claws. This can lead to severely damaged furniture and leave you very frustrated.
Follow these steps to prevent your cat from scratching and preserve the look of the furniture you bought through your local PMD Furniture Direct™ franchisee for a lifetime.
- Put a scratching post in your cat’s favorite perch. Cats often like to enjoy the sun on their fur, so place a post by a window.
- Find a post that best suits your cat. This may take a bit of experimenting on your part, but will be well worth it.
- Research your cat’s breed to find what surfaces or textures they may prefer such as rugs, wood or cardboard. You will also discover if they prefer a vertical or horizontal post.
- Reward your kitty with a treat every time they use the post. This will create a desire in them to want to scratch the post instead of your PMD furniture.
- Upon waking from a long nap, pick the cat up and place it near the post. Cats stretch and flex their claws after waking up.
- Provide alternatives, not punishment, when your cat scratches the furniture. Punishment will only teach them to not do it when you are around.
- Do not permit your cat to scratch any furniture, even if you plan on getting rid of an old piece. This will only teach them to scratch any and all furniture.
- Finally, consult your local veterinarian about different treatment option before you give up.
Visit your local PMD Furniture Direct™ franchisee to shop our vast selection of affordable, durable and beautiful furniture from the Royal Heritage Home Furnishings® Collection that even your finicky feline will love.

A parents most important job in life is the safety and protection of their children. From the day our kids are born, we do everything we can making sure their surroundings are free from harm. We baby proof our house, we make sure they have food that they can eat, and we always make sure the toys they play with are age appropriate. But how can we watch over them and protect them when everyone is asleep?
Bunk Beds are one of the most popular beds for youth bedroom furniture. Besides being a real space saver, there is something appealing to kids that makes sleeping high off the ground awesome!
Here are a few precautions you can follow that will help make your child’s bunk bed more secure.
- Make sure your child is age appropriate for a bunk bed. Bunk beds will let you know, like many toys, the proper age of children that should be allowed to sleep on the bed. This is a very over looked rule, and many times smaller children can slip underneath the rails. Have your child test out the bed before you buy it.
- The top bunk should always have a guardrail on all four sides, even if it will be placed against a wall. There should be no more than 9 centimeters (3.54 inches) between the bottom of the rail and the frame of the bed to prevent the child from becoming trapped between the rail and the frame.
- It’s essential to use the proper size mattress on your bunk bed. Make sure the mattress you buy fits snugly against all edges of the bed frame. If you buy an extra long bunk bed, make sure the mattress is extra long as well.
Visit your PMD Furniture Direct ™ franchisee for fun and functional youth bedroom furniture, where you’ll also find the Royal Heritage Home Furnishings® Bedding Collection with a wide assortment of mattresses to safely fit your bunk beds (and grown up beds!) for a safe and sound night’s sleep.

One third of your life is spent sleeping on your Sealy™ mattress, recharging your batteries for tomorrow’s tasks. One of the most imperative furniture pieces you own deserves to be protected from liquid stains that can penetrate your sheets and leave foul odors and stains on your bedding.
Preventing liquids such as urine, sweat, drinks and food from reaching your mattress is pretty simple: just keep it covered. Putting a garbage bag under the sheets making your child sleep on a human noise maker all night, giving them the gift of grumpiness, is not the answer. Instead, wrap your mattress and pillows with a Royal Heritage® Mattress Protector and Royal Heritage® Pillow protector. Mattress and pillow protectors keep any type of liquid from leaving stains or odors behind. Our mattress and pillow protectors will keep your mattress and pillows fresh, allowing you to sleep in a peaceful state and preserve your warranty coverage.
There are additional steps you can take to keep your mattress clean. Vacuuming the mattress is the only technique Sealy™ recommends. If the unthinkable does happen and some sort of liquid reaches the mattress, Sealy™ recommends using only mild soap and cold water, and applying it lightly. Don’t ever soak a mattress or box spring, and don’t use dry cleaning solvents which could damage the construction materials.

After a brutal winter that battered much of the country with record breaking snowfall, Spring is finally in the air! Along with the changing seasons comes new and exciting furniture trends.
Leading off this year’s exciting trends are bright and bold colors. Bright colorful sofas with neutral colored throw pillows will be all the rave this year. This is the opposite of years past where neutral colored couches with bright pillows were making their ways into everyone’s home.
Paired with bright colors are grays and metallic accents. These darker colors and styles will allow the bright colors of your furniture to pop even more, enhancing their style. Gray is the hot neutral color being used this year to showcase bright furniture.
Not getting lost in the shuffle of this year’s trends is comfort and flexibility. More than ever, we need furniture that will serves multi-purposes and maximizes the space in our homes. Modular furniture like sofa recliners, futons, and pull out beds will be a huge part of this trend.
One major trend that is reinventing itself and making its way around again is Asian styled furniture. Having fallen out of favor of designers decades ago, many Asian influences are starting to peek their way into homes. Japanese art inspired fabrics, gentler than years past, will influence many designs.
Finally, gaining momentum every year, eco-friendly furniture is continuing its growth into the furniture industry. Environmentally friendly furniture is going to a huge trend for years to come.
Visit your PMD Furniture Direct ™ franchisee to bring these trends into your home today!

The way people think about our relationship to the earth is changing. The smallest details of the way we live our lives are now being reexamined for their effect on the ecosphere and changes to our lifestyles are being made accordingly. It might surprise you to hear, but this eco-consciousness has now even turned its attention to our furniture, probably one of the last places you’d ordinarily look when considering the environment. If furniture is made out of wood, and getting that wood is part of a process that could be putting strain on the environment, then you might be asking how a piece of furniture could ever be considered “eco-friendly.” Well, luckily for us there are a few standards already in place for such questions.
• The first classification is the most clear. Has some material other than wood been used to create the piece of furniture ? Using a material other than wood shows that the manufacture of this product is not using resources from nature for the sole purpose of creating furniture.
• The second classification is a bit surprising. The forest Stewardship Council has devised a certification that can deem a piece of furniture as Eco-Friendly. In order for a piece of furniture to be certified as Eco-friendly, the manufacturer must demonstrate that they are replanting trees in place of trees being cut down. So a piece of furniture can now be made of wood and still be considered Eco-friendly.
• A final classification for Eco-friendly furniture is based on the amount of extras that are used to create the piece of furniture. Many people who are Eco-conscious believe furniture that is kind to the environment should be simple , using the bare minimum for wood, padding, vinyl, fabric, and leather. Simple styles and less-is-more design are key when considering whether a piece of furniture is Eco-friendly.
And there you have it. If reducing your carbon footprint is important to you, these tips should help you find the furniture that fits not just your home, but your ideals.
